Shadow and Bone’s second season is mere hours away! If you can’t wait that long to see the television adaptation of Leigh Bardugo’s Shadow and Bone trilogy and Six of Crows duology, Netflix has good news for you: the streaming platform just released the first seven minutes today for our viewing pleasure.
You can watch the full clip on Netflix’s poorly named “news” site, Tudum. It starts out with Alina (Jessie Mei) entering a creepy dream space where she has a less-than-cordial altercation with the Darkling (Ben Barnes).
“The most wonderful thing about Season Two is that we get to advance the story of these characters that we’d left in precarious positions at the end of Season One,” co-showrunner and executive producer Eric Heisserer told Tudum in an interview. “There’s a lot of potential for them this season. They have to face the consequences for their actions, and then they get to meet new people along the way. The Grishaverse also expands in this season, both in mythology and in characters.”
If you’ve read Bardugo’s books, it’s not a surprise to find out in the clip that Alina is looking for the other amplifiers so she can tear down the Fold. It’s also no surprise that the Fold is growing, driven by the Darkling. What I and other readers of the book don’t know, however, is how this season will weave in the characters from the Six of Crows duology. We see a glimpse of Kaz (Freddy Carter), Jesper (Kit Young), and Inej (Amita Suman) at the end of the clip, where they’re back in Kerch and currently out of a home, as the Dime Lions took over the Crow Club. Where things go from there, we’ll have to wait a few more long hours to find out.
The second season of Netflix’s Shadow and Bone premieres on March 16, 2023.
